Scripture: Mal 4:5-6 "See, I will send you the prophet Elijah before that great and dreadful day of the LORD comes. He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers; or else I will come and strike the land with a curse."

Isa 40:3-5 A voice of one calling: "In the desert prepare the way for the LORD; make straight in the wilderness a highway for our God. Every valley shall be raised up, every mountain and hill made low; the rough ground shall become level, the rugged places a plain. And the glory of the LORD will be revealed, and all mankind together will see it. For the mouth of the LORD has spoken."

Story: This is the third song written for John Torres's sermon series on Malachi and is my first attempt at writting and arranging in the SATB format. Traditionally at the Passover meal (seder) an empty seat is set for Elijah and, at the meal's conclusion, a young child is sent to the door to see if Elijah has indeed come to take his place at the table. This reflects the Jewish teaching that before Messiah comes Elijah will first come to prepare the way for Him. In the book of Matthew Jesus tells his followers that John the Baptist fulfilled the role of Elijah in His first coming. (Matt 17:10-13) What has happened before will happen again. I believe that Elijah will preceede Christ's second coming, that once again he will prepare the way of the Lord when he returns and establishes His kingdom on earth.
